My Name is Jane

by Phil Darg

As Jane seeks to become pregnant, she attempts – as an aspiring social media influencer – to document her infertility treatment. What starts out as a difficult but exciting process ends up being a terrifying nightmare of medical and legal complications – made much worse by the 2022 Supreme Court decision that overturned Roe vs. Wade.

My Name is Jane was first performed in 2024. A monologue from the piece was performed at the Stethoscope Stage play festival at Texas Christian University. Later that year, the piece was a finalist for the Little Theatre of Alexandria One Act Competition (Alexandria, VA), and was also a finalist for a regional one-act play competition at Theatre du Mississippi (Winona, MN). In August 2024, the piece was given a full stage production by Hendersonville Theatre (Henderson, NC), which selected the script from hundreds of submissions.
